Exploring Flickr and the Sandbox Wiki were also fun. I guess I am a visual person. I suppose I also see some application for work and my personal life with these resources.

23 Things & My Lifelong Learning: One of the biggest benefits of this project was becoming aware to the avaialbel technologies and having the opportunity to do more than just read about them. For many of us scheduling the time to explore new "Things" is not always possible. The time is not always there. I am happy that I had the opportunity to look into these "things" that I had only danced around before, hearing one mentioned here or there, but not quite sure of "exactly" what it was.

Take-aways/Unexpected outcomes: I can not lie, I am so happy to be done. This has taken many hours to complete. I am taking away a greater understanding of online applications, things younger people know more about and are using. One of my early goals was to improve my digital camera skills, so this was a great opportunitiy to make a conscious effort to do just that.

How could 23 be improved? Maybe scheduling it during a different time of the year might help to free up staff schedules for the 23 activities. Summer is a busy vacation time and we also had 2 out on medical leave, so it was difficult to find time, but not impossible, for everyone to work on 23. The format was appropriate and "forced" some of the less computer literate to jump in feet first. I see more confidence in several staff, and they are more in tuned to the new technologies. I was a bit frustrated with all the accounts I had to create for the exercises. I am fearful that the amount of SPAM will be increased in my email. I understand hands-on is best, but if some of this could be avoided, it would make a lot of folks happy.

Would I do again? Yes. I think offering learning opportunities like this are essential to keep staff involved with what is happening, and a way to improve their skills and knowledge.

My learning experience: This learning experience has been fun, imaginative and informative. Great tools, lots of fun along the way. And boy did it give staff something to talk about.

Annhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00855930129545502443noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9030773585444354394.post-69174010741862119802007-08-25T12:21:00.000-07:002007-08-25T13:51:10.351-07:00Week 9 - Podcasts, Videos & Downloadable Audio#20 Discover YouTube:
This I have done with #19. We identified the changes to our roles and continue to work towards ways to provide our users with the services and resources they need and want. The notion of information evolving from a commodity to a product to a service to a neo-library experience pretty much put the right spin our our efforts. We are in a competitive market. Users, especially the younger generations, are more connected via social computing and will continue to increase. L2 means staying on top of changes in technology and identifying how they can be applied to library users. It means more of a collaboration between libraries and their users, getting away from the unidirectional relationships of the past. Libraries are communities, where the collective knowledge and experience can be shared in both directions.Annhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00855930129545502443noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9030773585444354394.post-23381559543675489852007-08-18T11:22:00.001-07:002007-08-18T11:22:44.193-07:00#12 Rollyo: YouTube Meteors

Saw this while playing with Rollyo. The Merlin site is a golden resource that needs to be tapped into. http://www.merlin.lib.md.us/Annhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00855930129545502443noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9030773585444354394.post-82747436781183327462007-06-27T10:46:00.001-07:002007-08-18T10:59:13.610-07:00Cat and Kittens - #5 FlickrThanks Suzanne for helping me with the
"blog this" feature from the Flickr site.

American 19th Century, c. 1872/1883
Gift of Edgar William and Bernice
Chrysler Garbisch1958.9.8

Annhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00855930129545502443noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9030773585444354394.post-59193283692739070792007-06-27T09:00:00.001-07:002007-08-18T12:38:27.960-07:00Week 3 - Photos and Images#5 Explore Flickr
What fun with the images and photos. I am now trying to get ahead of staff so I can be in a better position to help them when they get stuck.

Looked over some of the blogs that have been registered and am very impressed. Some are quite fancy. I do hope that those who have been frustrated will start to relax, get the help they need and start having fun.

#2 Lifelong Learning and L2
Setting goals -- ah, so necessary in order to accomplish anything. Adding the 1/2 to play = enjoy the process. Many of the hardest things I have done in life have also given me great enjoyment in the process as well as the result. Working on my educational goals, many seemed so long term, but little by little the efforts reach the goal.

In order to set a new goal, one which I would like to pursue with the following documentation, is to improve my skills with my digital camera.

Learning Contract:

Goal: Improve skill with taking digital photos

Obstacles: Time/Interruptions

Toolbox: Web & Other Resources/Digital Camera/Discs/Paper/Better Printer

Resources for Help: Olympus site and listserv/manual (paper and software help)

Path to Goal: Each week, set aside one hour for project (do this on paper calendar - visual - as reminder)

Check in: Every 2 weeks

Sign It: ahr

WEEK 2 - Getting Set Up and Registered
#3 Setting up Blog & #4 Registering Blog and Tracking Progress -- DoneAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00855930129545502443noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9030773585444354394.post-70459245111877398572007-06-26T07:55:00.000-07:002007-06-27T08:52:49.769-07:00Getting StartedAs usual, I am a bit behind in getting started with 23 Things. Several staff members are needing some guidance which has given me a chance to set my nose to the gridstone and, at least, get started. Finding time is the biggest challenge, but I find that when others need help, it motivates me to find an hour here or there. Once on track, we will all keep rooling. What a womderful way to be introduced and really get dirty with this new technology on the web.Annhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00855930129545502443noreply@blogger.com0
